I am and always have been a big fan of Christmas. I just love to watch the reactions of others as they open their gifts. I love the peaceful beauty of the glowing Christmas tree. This year like many before however I did feel and see the stress we impose upon ourselves at this time of year. We find ourselves running constantly. We worry about finding the perfect gift, or having the perfect gathering. We worry about spending, sometimes outside of our means, to try to ensure others around us enjoy the holiday. The Holidays create a whole new world of stress for some. It’s a time for family get togethers which opens wounds for those who are now missing family members. It’s really easy at times to lose sight of the true meaning behind the season. The birth of Jesus, a gift to all. The one who willingly left Heaven to incarnate here knowing fully the purpose he was to fulfill and thus the trials and tribulations that would certainly be part of his physical time with us. The amazing Love for humanity and selflessness he must have had to continue to follow his heart, fulfilling his purpose here. He did not give up, he did not hide and he did not abandon his calling, even in the face of death. First let us reflect upon the immense value and love we each have that such a sacrifice was made for us. Second let us acknowledge the example set by Jesus for all of us each day. One of purpose, one of persistence and one of unwavering faith.
As we enter into the new year be gentle with each other, be a reminder of the good, spread happiness wherever you go.
